In their advertisement, they show off people playing Chutes and Ladders along with Chess. Those two examples alone mean this table can accommodate many types of multiplayer situations from big groups to more intimate one-on-one scenarios. Also, the table is battery-operated and can go without a charge for around three-four hours, or it can be plugged in for uninterrupted gaming. Don’t like the legs? Those can be removed. What about something that is not going to cost you an arm and a leg? Arcade1Up is currently having a sale on several of its arcade full-standing units. Ms. Pac-Man is $100 off, while Terminator 2 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time are $150 off each. In addition, The Simpsons and X-Men are $200 off.

Dragon’s Lair Is Coming

One of the most iconic arcade games of the 80s was Don Bluth’s Dragon’s Lair. That’s because it was something completely different than anything on the market at the time using a technique called LaserDisc. It was sort of a choose your own adventure game except for the fact that if you made the wrong choice, you died immediately. If you grew up in the 80s, or even 90s when Dragon’s Lair was still ubiquitous, you probably lost $20 easily in quarters and didn’t even come close to beating it. The game was brutally punishing, to say the least.

Brutally gorgeous that is. The animation of Dragon’s Lair was its main selling point as it was done by Don Bluth’s animation studio. You may know some of their classic animated films like The Secret of NIMH (1982) and All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989) — the former of which is said to have inspired Ralph Bakshi’s Franzetta-inspired Fire and Ice (1983). Over the years Dragon’s Lair has been ported to Commodore 64, the now-forgotten 3DO, and even Sega CD (a mildly popular accessory to Sega Genesis/Mega Drive) — the ports made the game a lot more accessible, of course. No quarters? No problem. However, there’s nothing quite like that original, 1980s arcade feeling — which is exactly why Arcade1Up is developing a home unit.

There is no exact release date for Dragon’s Lair, but it is expected to launch sometime this Summer. Those who pre-order now can save $50, which puts the upcoming arcade machine at $600. That may seem like a lot now, but getting in your order is a surefire way to impress, or more likely torture, your friends sooner rather than later. It should also be mentioned the Dragon’s Lair unit will include its sequel, Dragon’s Lair II: Time Warp, and even Don Bluth’s lesser-known but equally appreciated spinoff, Space Ace.
